July 11, 1946 – August 28, 2019
Gary L. Meyer, Appleton, age 73, died Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Bonduel on July 11, 1946 to the Orval "Doc" and Ruth (Wehrman) Meyer. Gary married his high school sweetheart, Dianne Hoff, on July 2, 1966 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at the family land on Meyer Road outside of Black Creek. Gary was an active member of Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was an usher. He never missed his bible study group at Mary's Restaurant every Tuesday.
After his family, his greatest love was football. He coached Pop Warner football for many years and was very involved with the Fox Valley Lutheran High School football program for over 25 years. Gary loved his time there, with his good friend Coach Gene Strusz and the other coaches. A great highlight of his life was helping the team win the 2001 Wisconsin State Football Championship.
Gary is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dianne; children: Craig L. (Janneen) of Appleton and Kendra L. (Tim) White of Green Bay; grandchildren: Corey, Evan, Hayden, Maddie, Alexandra and Matthew; siblings: Joan Erdman, Timm (Denise) Meyer, Connie (Ron Waseka) Meyer, Dawn (Brian) DeBauche; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Tom Witthuhn, Linda Cockeram, June (Gary Sternberg) Nystrom, and Chris (Mary) Hoff. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Faye Witthuhn; father and mother-in-law, Donald and Mary J. Hoff; and brothers-in-law: Bob Erdman and Vern Cockeram.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 2, 2019 at MOUNT OLIVE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH (930 E. Florida Ave. Appleton) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Nathan Wordell will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Fox Valley Lutheran High School Football Program are appreciated.
Gary's family would like to thank the staff at ThedaCare at Home Hospice for the compassionate care he received.
