Gary E. Van Groll, Appleton, age 77, passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with COPD on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Hospital.  He was born in Appleton on November 1, 1944 to the late John and Claribel (Schmidt) Van Groll.  Gary retired from Miller Electric after more than 25 years of service.

Gary enjoyed watching baseball, football, and wrestling on TV.  In earlier years he was an avid bowler but later in life it became Wii bowling – he loved getting those 100 pin strikes!  For many years, he enjoyed road trips and seeing the states.  Gary loved fishing and cottage time up north.

Gary is survived by his children:  Valerie (Jim) Winter of Appleton; Michael (Shannon) Van Groll of New London; and Brian (Adena) Van Groll of Appleton; their mother, Angie Kons Van Groll; step sons:  Mark, Robert, Daniel, and John Zeininger; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brothers:  John (Mary) Van Groll and Mark (Sandy) Altergott; step brother, Joseph (Vicki) Loessel; brother-in-law, Don Schroeder; and nieces and nephews:  John, Paul, Camille, Christine, Cindy, Todd, Sarah, and Abby.  He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, John Van Groll and Claribel Altergott; step mother, Valeria Siebers Loessel; wife, Margaret Van Groll; siblings:  Michael Van Groll and JoAnn Schroeder; and infant son, John Gary Van Groll.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated.
