Francis A. Schmidt, Appleton, age 90, died Wednesday November 12, 2014 at Cherry Meadows. He was born in the Town of Buchanan on November 1, 1924 to the late Frank and Marie (Hartzheim) Schmidt. Francis married Rose Lamers on June 17, 1948 at St. Paul Parish in Wrightstown. He retired from farming and sales, and enjoyed golf, bowling, flower gardening and wood crafts.
Francis is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rose; children: Floyd (Edie), Suring; Gib (Sis), Appleton; Clyde, Appleton; Cy (Diane), Kaukauna; Sal (Don Cupp), Kaukauna; David (Colleen), Appleton; Ed (Lisa), Kimberly; Bruce (Jodie), Appleton; and Fran (Tracy), Hortonville; 19 grandchildren: Jenni (Shane) Robley, Jon (Rachel); Rick (Cora), Andy (Karen), Sarah (Jeff), Patrick (Lisa), Melanie; Nic (Sara) Schmitt, Ben (Lindsay) Schmitt, Ellie (Nick) Bouressa; Travis, Trevor (Amanda), Trent, Turner; Jessica, Logan; Calista, Laken and Tavia; 19 great grandchildren; brothers: Alfred (Eunice) and Jerome Schmidt; and sisters-in-law: Mary Nackers, Frances Haen, Emily VanderWyst and Marilyn Lamers. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Francis was preceded in death by his sister: Agnes (Ray) Bies; brothers: Lawrence (Loretta), Leo (Florence), Gerald (Marcella) and Norbert (Lucina) Schmidt; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Audrey Schmidt, Ruby (Bob Turriff, Barney) Van Handel, Jane (Ves) Vosters, Gerald Nackers, Bob Haen, Gordy Vander Wyst, Gordon (Mary), Lyle (Ellen, Helen), Gene (Delia), Paul (Helen) and Marcel Lamers.
Visitation will be held Sunday November 16, 2014 at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main St. Little Chute) beginning at 1:00 p.m. and will conclude with a prayer service, led by Francis' son Deacon Gib Schmidt, at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday November 17, 2014 at ST. PAUL PARISH (410 Wallace St. Combined Locks) from 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Andrew Kysely will officiate. Committal St. Francis Cemetery, Hollandtown.
