God called home one of His most beautiful angels, Eunice C. Hammen, on Friday, June 15, 2012. Euny truly was a little slice of heaven here on earth, and she left peacefully after 91 memorable years with all of us. She was born on February 19, 1921 in Little Chute to the late Christian and Elizabeth (Wulgaert) Hartjes. Euny married Ernest M. Hammen on January 18, 1941 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church where she was a lifelong member. Ernie preceded Euny in death June 19, 1990, and he is there to wrap his loving arms around her once again. Euny was many things to many people, but was first and foremost a special child of God who showed a motherly love to everyone.
Eunice is survived by her children: Gerald (Kathy), Darboy; Thomas (Claudette), Appleton; Kathy (Bill ) Conrad, Little Chute; Douglas (Linda), Oshkosh; Ann (Jim) Vander Sanden, Little Chute; Ellen (Mike) Hooyman, Little Chute; Mary (Dan) Romenesko, Little Chute; and Ron (Lynn), Green Bay; 29 grandchildren: Vicki (Dan) Helein, Cyndi (Mario) Escudero, David Conrad, Kelly (Mike) Janssen, Shelly (Christopher) Puetz, Carrie (Jeremy) Phillips, Jill (Dan) Jansen, Ryan (Jamie), Jimmy (Sarah) and Scott Vander Sanden, Amy (Ryan) Vosters, Katie (fiancé Jordan Johnson), Kimberly and Kelsey Hooyman, Megan, Emily and Michael Romenesko, Terry, Todd (Sharon), Brian (Shelly), Steve, Mike (Kim), Chris (Karla), Eric (Tamara), Judd (Tanya), Jason (Keri), Sarah, Luke and Will Hammen; 42 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Bill (Ike), Jim (Alice) and Bob (Jan) Hammen, Doris Vosters, Joan (Ken) Driessen and Florence Poppe. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Eunice was preceded in death by her sons: Michael and infant Joseph; grandson: Robbie Vander Sanden; brothers and sisters: Viola Van Wymeren, Marvin (Kay) Hartjes, Coletta (Sonny) Jansen and Paul Hartjes; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Maurice (Marie), Ambrose (Ceil) and Isadore (Helen) Hammen, Agnes (Edward) Schuler, Geraldine (Fritz) Keyzers, Rhea (Paul) Balgie and Ed Poppe.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 18, 2012, at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute) beginning at 2:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen will officiate. Committal St. John Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jessica Johnston and the nurses, staff, and friends at Parkside Care Center who provided endless amounts of tender loving care and companionship. Also, a special thank you to the staff at Cherry Meadows who provided us support at the very end.
