Eugene Simon Schmitt, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at AMC in Appleton after a courageous and prolonged battle with cancer.

Eugene was born in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, to the late Elizabeth J. Schmitt and Carlton E. Schmitt. He attended Kaukauna High School and went on to dedicate 46 years of hard work and loyalty to Thilmany.

A man who treasured life's simple joys, Eugene had a deep love for Disney, cherished trips "up north," and above all, spending time with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren. Family was at the center of everything he did, and he poured his heart into creating lasting memories with those he loved most.

Eugene is survived by his devoted wife, Susan; his children Jeremy (wife Jennifer), Josh (girlfriend Sarah), Kurt (girlfriend Kiley), Nick (wife Amanda), David (wife Heather) Reh, and Jenny (husband Garry) Cihak. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Emma, Lily, Katelyn, Owen, Breanne, Ava, Charlotte, Alrik, Mickayla, and Kylie, who brought him endless joy and laughter.

He is also survived by his siblings Shirley (Rick) Strong, Elaine (Roger) Van Daalwyk, and Ed (friend Shelly) Schmitt, his brothers-in-law Gary Schultz, Todd Schultz, Patrick Schultz, and Greg Schultz, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Schmitt and Carlton Schmitt; sister Gloria A. Goehl; brothers Carlton F. Schmitt and Ronald L. Schmitt; nephew Ian J. Elliott; and his in-laws Shirley and Harry Schultz and brother-in-law Mike Schultz.

Visitation will be held October 11, 2025 at St. Katharine Drexel Parish -- St. Mary Church (119 W. Seventh Street, Kaukauna) from 9:00 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Kaukauna.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Harsha Poolah, the nurses and staff at ThedaCare Cancer Center and Interventional Radiology, ThedaCare Hospice, the nurses and staff at Thedacare AMC Oncology floor, Dr. Kyle Richards and the UW–Madison Urology and Interventional Radiology teams, Dr. Travis Kroner at Primary Care Associates-Appleton and Dr. Tam Diep Thedacare ER for their compassionate care and support throughout Eugene's journey.
