Obituary

Heaven is dancing with joy today. The angels surrounded Eugene and carried him on his final journey into the loving arms of our lord. He passed away at the age of 81 on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 peacefully surrounded by the family he so loved!

Eugene was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on August 9, 1930 to the late John and Lybia Brock. He attended St. Therese grade school and graduated from Appleton West High School.
Eugene proudly served his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy where he served for 4 years. He married his high school sweetheart, Harriet Bootz, on June 9, 1951 in Port Smith, Virginia. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He gave freely and generously of his time and talent.

He truly was a "Gene" of all trades! Throughout his life he fulfilled many jobs including engineering, owning his own Servicemaster business, homebuilder, postal worker and a fine craftsman, building many woodworking projects for his family or anyone in need.
After his retirement, he volunteered at AMC and St. Vincent DePaul. He enjoyed feeding his backyard friends, the birds and squirrels, playing cards, golfing, gardening and spending many good times with his family using the camper he built with his wife. But, in his later years cherished the time he spent fishing with his son, John and grandsons.

He spent 20 years of his life in Green Bay, WI. He described this time as some of the best years of his life enjoying the St. Jude camaraderie.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Harriet; four children: Ann (Mike) Gevaert Green Bay, WI; Mary (Gary) Heigl Palatine, IL; John (Michele) Brock Suamico, WI; and Jane (Tom) Van Grinsven Kimberly, WI; 10 grandchildren: Angie (Mike) Rusk, Molly Gevaert, Marcus Gevaert, Natisha Hiedeman, Peter Heigl, Katie (Brian) Biesterveld, Matthew Brock, Mitchel Brock, Jeffrey Van Grinsven, Jacob Van Grinsven; 4 great-grandchildren: Marisa and Serena Rusk, Brady and Lucy Biesterveld. He is also survived by his brother, Martin Brock; sister, Margaret Probst; brother-in-law Tom (Maggie) Bootz; sister-in-law, Rosie Knoll; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law Peter and Marie Bootz; two sisters, Edna (Lloyd) Jones and Irene Shaney; two sisters-in-law, Rita Brock and Dorothy (Don) Hietpas; brother-in-law, Archie Probst; and a niece Susie Brock.

The funeral liturgy for Eugene will be held on Monday, March 26, 2012 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH (1810 N. McDonald Street, Appleton) with Fr. Gerald R. Falk officiating. Full military honors conducted by the William Verhagen American Legion Post 60 will immediately follow. Friends may call from 2:00 P.M. until 4:45 P.M. with Mass to follow at 5:00 P.M.

We would like to express our gratitude to Father Falk for his many visits, support, encouraging words and prayers during this difficult time. Also, to Pat Murphy and the wonderful caring staff at Cherry Meadows, your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

Thank you, hon, for our 60-year love affair. All my love, your Wife
