Obituary

Erwin Betley, Kaukauna, age 93, died Monday, February 12, 2018 at St. Paul Home. He was born in Chicago on September 28, 1924 to the late Stanley and Mary Betley. Erwin served in the Pacific Theatre in the Army during World War II. He married Lorraine Smurawa at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Pulaski on May 3, 1952. She preceded him in death on August 5, 2012 after 60 years of marriage. Erwin worked at Proctor and Gamble for 30 years until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, gardening, traveling and spending time at the cottage in Crivitz. Erwin and Lorraine were charter members of St. Jude Parish in Green Bay. Upon moving to Kaukauna in 2000, they enjoyed the new relationships they formed as members of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, Kaukauna. Erwin was a proud father and grandfather and treasured time spent with his family.

Erwin is survived by his children: Rev. Michael E. Betley, Sherwood; Dolores (Jeff) Kettenhofen, Waukesha; Anne (John) Johnson, Kaukauna; and Lauren (Tom) Pahnke, Cottage Grove, MN; grandchildren: Jason (Aimee) and Eric (Kristin) Kettenhofen, Andrew, Benjamin (Elle), Christopher (fiancée Katherine Van Boxtel) and David Johnson, Matthew and Emily Pahnke; great grandchildren: Jack, Liam, Claira and Annabelle; brothers: Ray and Robert (Phyllis) Betley; and sisters and brother-in-law: Bernadine and Ferdie (Donna) Smurawa. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Lorraine, Erwin was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn (Joseph) Rovinski; and members of Lorraine's family.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 16, 2018 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH – ST. MARY CHURCH (119 W. 7 th St. Kaukauna) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Erwin's son, the Rev. Michael E. Betley will preside with Pastoral Leader, Deacon Steve Vande Hey, assisting. Military honors, conducted by the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 and American Legion Post 41, will immediately follow.
