Elizabeth J. "Betty" Sturm, Little Chute, age 82, died Tuesday April 12, 2011 at her home with her family by her side after a battle with cancer. She was born in Little Chute on February 4, 1929 to the late Henry and Lena (Verstegen) DeBruin. On August 19, 1952 Betty married Edward Sturm at St. John Nepomucene Parish. In addition to providing a loving home for her family, Betty also worked outside of the home. She spent 29 years at Zwicker Knitting Mill and also was employed at Tony Wonders and the Starlite Club. Betty enjoyed baking, knitting, fishing and playing cards with her sisters and friends. A proud and loving grandmother, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty is survived and dearly missed by her husband of 58 years, Edward; four sons: Jim, Wisconsin Rapids; Gary (Kim), Little Chute; Steve (Kim), Freedom; and Todd (Tina), Freedom; 6 grandchildren: Stacy (fiancé Brian VanBoxtel), Kevin (fiancé Ashley Seegers), Tyler (fiancé Amy Bouchard), Brandon, Jeremy and Tiffany; 2 great grandchildren: Dakota and Jude; sisters: Rita Lalley, Verna (Jerry) Sigl and Ione Geurts; brother Ronnie (Carol) DeBruin; and sister-in-law: Doris DeBruin. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her grandsons: Jeremy, Joshua, Jason and Cory; sister: Rosalia (Henry) St. Louis; brother Mervin DeBruin; and brothers-in-law: Bob Lalley and Tom Geurts.
Visitation will be held at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute) Monday April 18, 2011 beginning at 2:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Lawrence Canavera will officiate. Committal Highland Memorial.
The family would like to thank the Hospice nurses and social worker Teri for all of their help in the last few days of Betty's life.
