Liz Roberts, age 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Rennes Health of Appleton. Liz was born in Fond du Lac on August 11, 1948, to the late William and Anona Roberts. Liz graduated from Fond du Lac High School. Her career working as a nanny gave Liz extraordinarily enjoyment. She had a God given talent of working with children. Liz could sense when a child felt distressed and needed to talk to an adult. Liz would listen to the children, she inspired them with love and guidance. Each child Liz cared for throughout her career became like family to Liz.

Following her career as a nanny, Liz delivered Meals on Wheels. Liz had such a heart of gold, she made friends with each person to whom she delivered meals. When she delivered a meal and the recipient did not answer their door, Liz would repeatedly ring the doorbell until the recipient greeted Liz at their door. Liz wanted to confirm that the Meals on Wheels recipient was not injured or distressed.

Liz unconditionally loved every animal she met; animals were spontaneously drawn to Liz. She had a special fondness for Schnauzers. Liz also loved all breeds of dogs she met. While living at Rennes dogs and cats came to visit, Liz would greet each of the four leg visitors with her hugs, smiles and kind heart. She had a special friend who has a Juliana pig. Liz asked for this pig, Petunia, to come for a visit. When Petunia arrived to visit “Auntie Liz,” Liz was so excited. When Petunia was a small piglet, Liz tucked Petunia in her arms for the photo shoot. Liz’s friend also has a Polish rabbit who would come to visit “Auntie Liz.” The moment “Mr. Bun” arrived, Liz would hold Mr. Bun for a minimum of one hour. She would pet and talk to Mr. Bun, all during their photo shoot. When Petunia and Mr. Bun’s visit ended, she would hug and kiss them goodbye, and tell them, “Have mama bring you back soon.”

Liz kept track of all information she received regarding the care of Petunia and Mr. Bun. Mr. Bun receives a banana chip every evening. During one of the evening phone conversations of Liz and Penny, there was no mention of Mr. Bun receiving his nightly banana chip. That night, Liz called Penny at 1:30 am. When Penny answered the late-night phone call, concerned something had happened to Liz, Liz asked, “did Mr. Bun get his banana chip tonight?” After Penny confirmed that Mr. Bun did in fact receive his evening banana chip, Liz and Penny ended the phone call. Liz had a refrigerator in her room at Rennes. Penny waited 10 minutes after Liz’s call regarding the banana chip. Penny called Liz . When Liz answered Penny asked Liz if her refrigerator was running. Liz did not have caller ID on her landline phone and was not expecting Penny to call her at this odd hour. When Liz said, “yes, my refrigerator is running.” Penny said, “you better catch it,” hung up and turned her phone off. The next day when Liz and Penny were visiting, Liz told Penny she thought she had a dream that Penny called her and asked about her refrigerator. Penny burst into laughter! When Liz asked Penny why she did that, Penny replied, “we consider each other sisters and sisters play jokes on each other.” That is when Liz first learned about prank phone calls. Liz then decided she wanted to make a prank phone call. Liz proceeded to call an appliance store, and asked to speak with a salesperson. Liz asked the salesman if the refrigerators for sale were in running order. When the salesman said yes they are, Liz replied, “you better go catch them all sonny” and hung up her phone. Liz was so excited that she made her first prank phone call at the youthful age of 77.

Liz relished listening to music. She especially enjoyed listening to Fernando and the Elvis impersonator when they visited Rennes. She also enjoyed listening to her CD’s of Ricky Martin, Kenny Rogers, and polka music. When Penny introduced Liz to the song “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC, Liz learned how to play the air guitar! When Penny introduced Liz to the song “Renegade” by Styx, Liz learned how to play the air drums!

Liz had a sense of adventure. When Liz’s friend bought an ATV, Liz asked her friend to bring the ATV to her, put her on the ATV, and take her for a ride through the City of Appleton. When Liz was told that ATV’s were not allowed to be driven in Appleton, she said, “too bad, let’s ride.” When a friend purchased a new vacuum cleaner, Liz asked to have the vacuum cleaner brought to her, at Rennes, so she could see the vacuum cleaner. When her friend arrived with the vacuum cleaner, Liz marveled at the great length of the power cord. Followeing this, Liz insisted she see a demonstration of how well the vacuum cleaner works. Her friend took the vacuum cleaner out into the hall, Liz came out into the hall in her wheelchair. When the vacuuming began, Liz inspected the vacuum’s performance. Liz then said, “it’s good, you can keep it.” The Rennes staff members and visitors were familiar with the odd things Liz and her friend did throughout their friendship, nobody thought anything of this cherished moment.

Liz was an avid fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. She knew their game schedules, their season ranking, and of course she had suggestions for the coaching staff!

In Liz’s younger years, she enjoyed preparing homemade meals for her sister, Gloria’s family. She also enjoyed making homemade desserts. She did not need to look at the recipes she had memorized all of them. Over the years she was able to give helpful hints to those who asked her for cooking and baking advice.

Liz appreciated everything good that came into her life, no matter how insignificant it may have seemed to others. She especially enjoyed receiving handwritten notes from the Einstein middle school students who would visit Rennes. Liz had a digital photo frame in her room, she marveled at the photos her friend had loaded to this photo frame. Liz would immediately notice when new photos were loaded. Liz would immediately call her friend and thank her for the new photos. Liz found great humor in the photo of a cow licking its nose!

Liz is survived by her best friend, who she considered her sister, Penny Mullen-Schweitzer.

Liz is preceded in death by her parents, William and Anona Roberts; her sister, Gloria (Gary) Tipton; and her nephew, Greg Tipton,

On Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 3:00 pm Cemetery Interment will be held at Appleton Highland Memorial Cemetery, 3131 N Richmond St, Appleton, WI 54911.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
