Elizabeth
Flanagan
September 24, 1924 – December 17, 2020
On December 17, 2020 - Elizabeth (Betty) Hanegraaf Flanagan passed at the age of 96. Betty was born in 1924 to Cornelius "Casey" and Elizabeth "Betz" Verstynen Hanegraaf of Little Chute. Their family owned and operated the Hanegraaf Super Market in Little Chute for many years.
Betty was the oldest of six children. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Celine Rippl; and three brothers, Joe Hanegraaf, Greg Hanegraaf, and Jack Hanegraaf. Mary Lou Bressers is the last surviving sibling.
Betty married Jack Flanagan of Kaukauna in 1947. Together they had four children. When her children had grown, she ascended to executive secretary at the Creative Center for Western Publishing Co. in Racine, Wisconsin. After retiring, she moved back to the Fox Valley area to be near her siblings and friends.
Betty was very talented and creative. She sang beautifully, played the piano, modeled, danced, acted, enjoyed crafting, and was an exceptional artist. Everyone desired a "Betty" original painting, as it was her favorite pastime. She was also known for her annual Christmas poem that she wrote and sent to family and friends. Hence, it's somewhat fitting that her passing would be during the joyous holiday season. She loved playing golf, cards and watching the Green Bay Packers play. She would also guide the "green and gold" on what they should have done to win.
Betty loved her family and circle of dear friends. She is survived by her children, Kim Spizzirri (John), Champaign, IL; Maggie Flanagan, Bradenton, FL; Dave Flanagan (Linda), Green Valley, AZ; and Jim Flanagan (Kelly), Mt. Pleasant, WI; her six grandchildren, Justin, Katie, Sarah, Chris, Benton, and Macy; and her "Greats," Elisabeth, Savannah, Rebecca, Reagan, Mason, Jameson, Noah, and Paul.
Betty's family would like to thank her many dear friends for their support, love and concern, especially Jean Peltier and Glee Zale. We would also like to thank Dr. Courtney Forte', Dr. Jack Meyer, and their respective staff for their care during both good and challenging times.
A special thank you to the Heartland Healthcare Hospice team for their recent, compassionate care. Thank you also for the care provided at Care Partners of Kaukauna.
Visitation will be held June 14, 2021 at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main St. Little Chute) beginning at 11:00 a.m. until time of Funeral at 12:00 Noon with Deacon Bruce Corey officiating.
