Edith "Mae" Ohman, Appleton, age 83, died at her home Tuesday, June 21, 2011. She was born in Big Bay, Michigan on October 2, 1927 to the late Gaylord and Vivian Hillier. Mae married John "Jack" Ohman on June 19, 1948 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette, MI. Mae was a long-time member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church where she was involved with the quilting group and her Women's Circle. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and true friend. Mae had a special heart for all children. When her own children married and left the area, Mae's open, loving personality drew children to her wherever she went.
Mae is survived by her children: Cheryl (Rick) Morgan, Gastonia, NC; Dawn (Dr. Jay) Phelan, Arlington Heights, IL; John Ohman, Athelstane, WI; Deana (Al Jacobi) Ohman, Gastonia, NC; Carleen (David) Guzman, Chicago; Charles (Marva) Ohman, Combined Locks; Polly (Gary) Sample, Wichita, KS; Edward (Sherry) Ohman, Bristol, IN; and Jackie Ohman, Milwaukee; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and brothers and sisters: Richard Hillier, Nancy (Richard) Martin, Dawn Nelson, Sharron Kuivanen, Molly (Gary) Glowacki, Judy (Johnny) Jewel, Gail Nevala and brother-in-law Jack Beauchamp. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jack; her grandson, John James; her mother-in-law, Thyra; sisters and brothers: Margaret Beauchamp, Rita (Leonard) Little, Marilyn Hillier, Skip Nelson and infants Brian and Karen Hillier; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Stan Kuivanen, Shirley, Kathleen and Verna Ohman, Beatrice (Robert) Lyons, Ella Mae (Victor) Pek and Jackie (Wesley) Pero.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday June 29, 2011 at 2pm at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH (2330 E. Calumet St., Appleton) with reception to follow the service. Pastor Gary J. Nokleberg and Mae's son-in-law, Dr. Jay Phelan will officiate. Committal Greenlawn Cemetery.
