Donald F. Leonard, Little Chute, age 86, died peacefully on Monday July 13, 2015 at Century Oaks Assisted Living in Appleton. He was born in Milwaukee on August 28, 1928 to the late Harry F. and Irma (Moegenberg) Leonard. Donald married Maxine "Mitzi" Kosmicki on November 19, 1949 in Milwaukee. She preceded him in death on May 20, 1994. He later married Joy Larish on March 16, 1996 in Appleton.
Donald was a senior buyer for Allis Chalmers, retiring after 43 years of service. He was an active member of the Lions Club, serving as a past president and secretary and on the board of directors for the Brown Deer Club and as the charter secretary, president and director for the Town of Menasha Club. Don was a member of the Winnegamie Dog Club and was the president for seven years, director of training for twelve years and obedience trainer for twenty years. He was a model railroader and enjoyed building two model HO train layouts. Don played the accordion in several bands for 35 years. He loved spending time with his family and always looked forward to the annual Leonard family reunion in Kiel. He also enjoyed volunteering at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital. Don was a member of, and supported the ministries at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Little Chute.
Donald is survived by his wife, Joy; children: Robert (Mary) of Kansas City, MO; Linda (Daryl) Spiegelberg of Menasha; Peggy of Appleton; Bonnie of Fremont; and Russell (Judy) of Greenville; stepchildren: Debra (David) Spielbauer of Greenville; Steven Kussman of West Salem; Kirk Kussman of Watertown; and Kyle Kussman of Stevens Point; grandchildren: Jonathon "J.D." (Tammy) Leonard, Christina "Tina" Lanning, Michael (Amanda) Habrat, Aimee LeVally, Michelle Santellano, Tim Leonard and Eric Leonard, and seven great-grand children; Joy's eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; and sister, Marian Saulig.
In addition to his parents and wife Maxine, Don was preceded in death by his sister Dolores Hicks and brother-in-law Andy Hicks.
Visitation will be held Friday July 17, 2015 at ST. LUKE LUTHERAN CHURCH (705 E. Greenfield Dr. Little Chute) beginning at 2:00 p.m. until time of Funeral at 4:00 p.m. The Rev. Dennis Belter will officiate. A memorial is being established in Donald's name to benefit St. Luke Lutheran Church and the Winnegamie Dog Club.
The family would like to thank all who cared for Don in his last days including Bill from Heartland Hospice. A special "thank you" to Susan for her compassionate heart and timely visit.
