Obituary

Donald M. Biesterveld, Appleton, age 86, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at St. Paul Manor. He was born in Little Chute on December 25, 1931 to the late Peter and Catherine (Geurden) Biesterveld.   Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was an Honor Flight participant in May, 2015. Don married Patricia Palmer on August 22, 1953 at Sacred Heart Parish in Appleton, where they were lifelong members. She preceded him in death on September 18, 2015. Don loved to sing and was a lifetime member of the MacDowell Male Chorus of Appleton. He was employed at J.J. Plank Corporation for 43 years, retiring in 1995. Don enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and baseball and coached Little League.

Don is survived by his children: Mark (Nancy) of Brookfield; Pete (Kris) of Ogdensburg; Paul (Ellen) of Appleton; John (Renee) of Rhinelander; and Beth (William) Mondzac of Seattle; grandchildren: Andy, Ben (Nicole), Adam, Tami, Tyler (Katie Williams), Drew (Christina Peterson), Reid (Katie Van Grinsven), Ross (Julie) and Amanda Biesterveld, Bill Lichtfuss and Max Mondzac; great grandchildren: Graham, Asher, Porter, Olivia, Kordelia and Archer Biesterveld; sister: Mary (Mike) Ourada; and brothers and sister-in-law: Marion Biesterveld, Orin "Butch" Palmer and William Matey. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Patricia, Don was preceded in death by his siblings: Elaine (Lester) Grones and Virgil Biesterveld; and sister-in-law, Mary Lee Matey.

Visitation will be held August 10, 2018 at SACRED HEART PARISH (222 E. Fremont St. Appleton) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Donald Zuleger will officiate. Military honors, conducted by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258, will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jack Anderson and the staff at St. Paul Manor for their care of Don.
