Dolores (Lorrie)
Van Bakel
August 2, 1932 – March 2, 2023
Dolores G. Van Bakel, 90, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at St. Paul Manor in Kaukauna. Dolores (Lorrie) was born on August 2, 1932, to John and Theodora (Dora Vander Burgt) Van Bakel in Little Chute, WI. Lorrie lived all of her life in Little Chute, attending St. John Grade and High School and graduating in 1950. She was an active member of St. John Nepomucene Church, and an Associate of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross of Green Bay since 2002.
Lorrie worked for Kimberly Clark Corporation for over 42 years and retired as an Invoice/Order Entry Supervisor in 1993. In retirement, she volunteered in many roles at St. John's. These positions included working as a receptionist at the parish office (1995-2010), Eucharistic Minister (1995-2012), serving funeral dinners (1995-2009), Care Minister (1998-2017), and Teacher Aide to the 1st grade at St. John School (2000-2014). She was pleased to receive the Distinguished Graduate Award in recognition of her contributions.
Lorrie loved bowling, was an avid Brewer and Packer fan, enjoyed reading, playing cards, and was a member of a lifetime card club made up of grade school and high school friends.
Lorrie is survived by the Sisters and Associates of St. Francis of the Holy Cross, Green Bay; friend, Sr. Ruth Ann LaBine who was a constant support; special nieces, Karen and Peggy; nephew, Carl; and 34 other nieces and nephews along with many great nieces and nephews.
Lorrie was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters and their spouses: Ardina (Ray) Pritzl, Joanne (Ed) Van Thiel, and Roseanne (Harry) Welhouse and an infant sister Christine Van Bakel; brothers and their spouses: Leo (Beryl) Van Bakel, Adrian (Terry) Van Bakel, and Joe (Angie) Van Bakel; and a close friend, Joyce Konkle.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CHURCH (411 Vandenbroek Street, Little Chute) on Saturday, March 11th at 11:00 am. Father Ron Belitz will officiate. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:00 am until Mass time. The family has requested that memorials be given to St. John Nepomucene Parish, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross of Green Bay, or St. Paul Manor in Kaukauna in memory of Lorrie.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at St. Paul Manor in Kaukauna who supported and cared for Lorrie in her final years.
