Delores A. Van Handel, Little Chute, age 82 died Tuesday June 29, 2010 at Appleton Medical Center. She was born in Appleton on December 23, 1927 to the late Michael and Katherine (Lettler) Kurey. Delores married Herman Van Handel on July 4, 1947 at St. Joseph Parish in Appleton. He preceded her in death October 5, 2004 after 57 years of marriage. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Parish, where she served as treasurer of the St. Elizabeth Society, funeral dinner coordinator and volunteered at St. John School and Parish. She also volunteered at the library and worked during elections in Little Chute. Over the years Delores enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She made many afghans for her family and was known for her knit baby sweaters. She also knit hats for AMC newborns and crocheted comfort care blankets for cancer patients In the last 5 years she became computer savvy!
Delores is survived by her children: Joyce (William) Nagan, Freedom; Judy Ver Voort (Wayne Manteuffel), Little Chute; JoAnn Van Handel, Little Chute; Kathleen (Greg) Bluma, Appleton; and Steve (Pam) Van Handel, Little Chute; grandchildren: Cheri and Andrew (Katrina) Nagan, Jeff (Marlene) Ver Voort, Sheila (Eric) Holmstrom, Kaylin and Matthew Bluma, Stephanie, Emily and Ashley Van Handel; great grandchildren: Megan and Nicholas Ver Voort, Luke and Lexi Holmstrom; sisters-in-law: Ardys Kurey, Bea Van Handel and Marilyn Schenck; and brother-in-law: Sylvester Van Handel (special friend, Stella). She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Delores was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Beverly Ver Voort; father and mother-in-law, Albert and Hattie (Van Groll) Van Handel; brothers, Orville and Donald Kurey; infant sister, Genevieve; and brothers and sisters-in-law: William (Marie), Joseph, Cornelius (Laura), Edward, Raymond (Marie), Anthony Van Handel, Rose (Clarence) Wolfinger and Jean Van Handel.
Visitation will be held Friday July 2, 2010 beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute). The Rev. David J. Funk, O.F.M. Cap. will officiate. Committal St. John Cemetery.
