October 12, 1926 – November 9, 2016
David L. Six, Kaukauna, age 90, died Wednesday, November 9, 2016. He was born in Melcher, Iowa on October 12, 1926 to the late Jerome and Florence (Karman) Six. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II aboard the USS John Land. Following his service, Dave moved to Kaukauna, married and began his 42 year career with Thilmany. He retired from the maintenance department in 1988. Dave married Anita Arps in 1976 and she preceded him in death.
Following his honorable discharge, Dave's dedication to service continued with his membership in the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319 where he served as Vice Commander and Commander and was on the funeral honors team. He was thrilled to have been a part of the Old Glory Honor Flight on June 1, 2010 and a participant in the Veterans Day programs at Neenah High School for many years.
Dave was always quick with a snappy comeback and was always willing to give someone "a lift." He was a unique man with many talents.
Dave is survived by his children: Karen (Dennis) Bruhn of Kaukauna; Alan (Lynn) Six of Greenleaf; and Deb (Mike Premeau) Six of Appleton; step sons: Donald (Sandra) Arps of Neenah and Thomas (Bonnie) Arps of Appleton; grandchildren: Kevin (Leigh Ann) Bruhn and James (Wayne Fronek) Six; sister-in-law, JoAn; and his long lost cousin that he reunited with 10 years ago, Ron Six. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Marcella Schermitzler; brothers: James, Edward (Marge) and Leo Six; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Harriet (Ray) Walton, Mary Alice (Harvey) Spencer, Orvis (Carolyn), James (Genevieve) and Jack (Theresa) Schermitzler and Marie (Victor) Van Drasek.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 14, 2016 at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main St. Little Chute) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. David Fleischmann will officiate. Military rites, conducted by the Kaukauna V.F.W. Post 3319, will immediately follow the funeral. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
Dave's family would like to thank the staff at Heartland Hospice for the care and compassion he received.
