Obituary

Clarence Daniel "Dan" Montalbano, Appleton, age 74, died Monday, March 3, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born in Chicago on July 14, 1950, to the late Clarence and Betty (Robertson) Montalbano. He was a 1968 graduate of Oshkosh High School and married Sally Kaufman in Appleton on April 6, 1973.

Dan was born to be a provider and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.  Fitting to his personality, he spent nearly 20 years as a firefighter with the City of Menasha Fire Department assisting people in need.  After an on-the-job injury forced early retirement, Dan focused his energy on a new career as a goldsmith, creating custom jewelry and handling repairs for 20 years. He loved using his creativity and artistry to design jewelry perfectly suited for his customers.

Above all, Dan loved being with and supporting his family. He worked multiple jobs to allow Sally to stay home and raise their children, Andy and Kati.  Dan cherished time spent at family events.  His love for his grandchildren was apparent, as he would never shy away from holding a baby in his arms and always had 1-on-1 birthday celebrations.

To Dan, family was about the friends you surround yourself with. He had many longtime friends at Tayco Tap and Spectator's Sports Bar, whom he loved. He felt most comfortable immersed in conversation, surrounded by friends, with his wife at his side.

Dan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sally; his children, Andy (Trisha) Montalbano of Greenville and Kati Montalbano (Chris Jorgenson) of Kimberly; his grandchildren, Madalyn, Miles, Dawson, and Delaney Montalbano, and Skylar Reiter; his siblings, Connie (George) Burrell, Joe (Karen) Montalbano, Nan Schwartz, Bill (Lorelei) Hough, and Patty Letourneau; and sisters-in-law, Sue (Tom) Last and Jane (Terry) Wolff. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Betty Montalbano; his father- and mother-in-law, Bob and Laverne Kaufman; step-fathers; numerous aunts and uncles; and several deeply beloved dogs.

A celebration of Dan's life will be held at Arrowhead Park, 5000 Aster Ln, Appleton, WI 54914, on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Dan will be dearly missed but forever remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in peace, reunited with those who went before him.
