Clarence A. "Sonny" "Mac" Pennings, Combined Locks, age 98, died Friday, February 17, 2017 at Care Partners Assisted Living. He was born in Phlox, WI on October 17, 1918 to the late William and Bertha (Knorr) Pennings. He moved from Antigo to attend vocational school in Kaukauna, where he learned to become a tinsmith. Sonny married Eunice Van Dalen on July 27, 1937 at St. Paul Parish. A World War II veteran, Clarence served in the Army with the Horse Calvary and was a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 for over 70 years. Sonny worked at the Combined Locks Mill from 1941 until his retirement in 1978.
Clarence loved to hunt and fish, especially musky at Big Sand Lake and mule deer out west. He was a tinkerer that could fix anything, usually making it better than before it was broken. Sonny also enjoyed a good game of Sheephead.
Sonny is survived by his children: Gerald (Grace) of Peshtigo; Charles (Barbara) of Hilbert; Joan (James) Verstegen of Little Chute; and Christy Pennings of Kaukauna; son-in-law: Gary (Bernie) Kuborn; grandchildren: Mark Pennings, Rebecca (Craig) Strutz, Luke (Judy) Pennings, Matt Pennings, John (Jill) Pennings, Carrie (Doug) Hietpas, Jamie (Kristin) Verstegen, Ryan (Betsy) Pennings and Joseph (Nancy) Kuborn; great grandchildren: Amanda, Carly, Joshua, Kristie, Callie, Christopher, Casey, Samantha, Garret, Nathanial, Grant, Eloise, Ryder, MiKayla, MiKenzie, Adam, Andrew and Abbey; and great great grandchildren: Levi and Adrian. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice; their daughter, Shirley Kuborn; granddaughter, Abbey Kuborn; great grandson: Corey Strutz ; and father and mother-in-law, William and Catherine Van Dalen. He was also preceded in death by his siblings and Eunice's siblings.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at ST. PAUL PARISH (410 Wallace St. Combined Locks) beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Andrew Kysely will officiate. Military rites conducted by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 will immediately follow. Committal St. Paul Cemetery.
The family would like to express extreme gratitude to the staff at Care Partners, Little Chute for the compassionate care that Clarence received.
