Christa A. Nieuwenhuis, Grand Chute, age 88, died at her home on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. She was born on May 16, 1936 to the late Kurt and Herta Spickermann in Berlin, Germany, where she lived as a child during World War II. Christa graduated from high school and business school and worked as a secretary. At 19, she met her husband, Joseph Nieuwenhuis, who was stationed in Berlin with the U.S. Army. They married on October 27, 1956 in the Army Chapel in Berlin and returned to the United States in 1958.

Together, Christa and her husband shared many hobbies. They loved to travel and took several trips back to Germany to visit her family. Christa and Joseph also enjoyed their trailer on Lake Noquebay in Crivitz, bowling, fishing, cross country skiing, golf, and boating. Christa also enjoyed ceramics and knitting.

After her husband's passing, Christa resided with her daughter Donna, who lovingly cared for her until Christa passed.

Christa is survived by her children: Michael (Linda) Nieuwenhuis and Donna (Allen) Jones; grandchildren: Jeremiah, Ryan (Amy), Holly (Terry), Michelle, and Matt (Madeline); step grandchildren: Tim, Deana, Amanda, and Kevin; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister, Waltraud Gohlke and her family in Berlin, Germany; and in-laws: Melvin (Donna) Nieuwenhuis and Lyle Spreeman. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Christa was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; parents, Kurt and Herta Spickermann; sister, Marianne Spickermann; father and mother-in-law: Joseph and Amelia Nieuwenhuis; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Lorraine Gasper, Carl (Ruth) Nieuwenhuis, Arlene (Howie) Spreeman, Lillian Spreeman, and Wolfgang Gohlke.

The family would like to thank Dr. Awe and her staff for the compassion and care given to Christa.

Visitation will be held May 22, 2025, at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main Street, Little Chute) beginning at 11:00 a.m. and concluding at 11:45 a.m. Funeral will follow at 12:00 Noon. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery.
