Carlton Edward Schmitt, Kaukauna, age 101, peacefully died at his home on Sunday, October 24, 2021.  He was born in Kaukauna on August 30, 1920 to the late Joseph and Ella (Krebser) Schmitt.  Carl owned the Kaukauna Bargain Center.  Carl has always believed in hard work and had a great work ethic which he applied to everything he did. Many will remember him as a generous and giving man who was full of wit and humor and always eager to share a story.

In retirement, he kept himself busy tearing down buildings, moving homes, and other construction projects.

Carl is survived by his children:  Gloria Goehl of Lexington, TX; Shirley (Rick) Strong of Appleton; Eugene (Susan) Schmitt of Appleton; Elaine (Roger) Van Daalwyk of Kaukauna; and Edward Schmitt of Kaukauna; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and brother, Richard (Barbara) Schmitt of Osprey, Fla.  He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by sons:  Carlton F. Schmitt and Ronald L. Schmitt.  his children's mother, Elizabeth J. Schmitt; and by grandson, Ian Elliott.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 29, 2021 at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main Street, Little Chute) beginning at 4:00 p.m. with a Sharing of Memories beginning at 7:30 p.m.
