Obituary

Carla Schoen passed away on January 4, 2021. It was her 77 th birthday. She was born in 1944 to Arthur and Verna (Dombeck) DeVleeshower. She was united in marriage to James Schoen on May 30, 1964. Carla was very proud that she worked for Good Shepherd Services for 35 years and enjoyed her job until her retirement.  In her spare time, she enjoyed being up north in the Pickerel area with her family and friends. She loved sitting by the campfire with her husband and dog, Jasper, by her side.  Carla truly enjoyed listening to a summer thunderstorm rolling through as rain drummed on the roof, as well as a cup of coffee in the morning while listening to the birds singing and nature coming to life.

Carla is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jim; her daughter, Lisa (Mark) Elsner; her son, John (Karen) Schoen; her grandchildren, Aisling (Jared) Lessor; Whittney (Zach) Willms; Luke (Georgia Lynn) Elsner; Emily Schoen; her great grandchild, Rory Lynn Lessor; her siblings, Sally Martin, Donna (Richard) Besaw, Paul DeVleeshower; sister-in-law, Shirley (Robert) Doepker; and many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A private gathering will be held with a celebration of her life occurring at a later date.   To sign the guest book, please visit oconnellfh.com.

Special thanks to the staff at St. Vincent Hospital for her care. Thank you to all our neighbors and friends for all of your support.

Jim would like to add a comment from a husband's point of view:  Carla was a very ambitious person, but not for her own benefit. She was always willing to help anyone, she deeply cared about people. She loved visiting and spending time with her family and friends. She encouraged me to be a better person when I stumbled. I will miss her deeply. I will tell you what a friend said about her that sums up her life quite well. "When God created Carla, he sure added a bunch of extra 'nice' in the formula."
