Bryan Lee
Vanden Boogaard
Apr 25, 1957 — Jul 31, 2026
Kaukauna
Bryan was born in Appleton, WI in 1957 to Jim and Helen Vanden Boogaard. In his early years, Bryan spent a lot of time with his sisters and cousins at their family farm. He also enjoyed time Up North at family cottages.
Bryan was married to Mary Jo Smet in 1980. Together, they made a loving home and family. Raising their three children, Becky, Jaren, and Eric, was a joyful time in their life. They were married for 30 years until Mary Jo’s death in 2011.
Bryan loved spending time at the family hunting land, a special place where he connected with nature and the spirit of his Dad. He made many memories there with family and friends.
Another chance at love came when Bryan met Pam Wussow. Together they made a wonderful life, enjoying time with their children and traveling with friends and family until his illness slowed Bryan down. A special joy came when they became grandparents to little Andie.
Bryan loved listening to music and was a gifted woodworker. He was in his element outdoors and loved to feed the birds and squirrels. Bryan loved decorating for holidays and was known for his huge Christmas displays when his kids were little. Above all, he had the kindest heart and could always be counted on to lend a hand wherever it was needed.
Bryan worked for the Corps of Engineers on the tugboat Ludington on Lake Michigan. He also worked in construction and at the Shannon Company. Bryan ended his career with the City of Appleton in the Parks Department. While he enjoyed and took great pride in each of his positions, Bryan truly loved working for the Corps of Engineers and the Park Department.
Bryan is survived by his children: Becky, Jaren, and Eric Vanden Boogaard, all of Kaukauna; his forever fiancée, Pam Wussow; Pam’s sons: Zachary (Amanda) and Nicholas Recker; granddaughter, Andie Recker; sisters: Dawn (Mark) Van Oss and Lynn (Dan) Peerenboom; uncle, Harry “Porky” Hameister; and close friends, John and Laura Hinkens. He is further survived by members of Mary’s family, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Bryan was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Vanden Boogaard; and parents, James and Helen Vanden Boogaard.
Visitation will be held at O’CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main Street, Little Chute) on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. A service will follow at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
