Obituary

Bonnie Jean Van Asten, age 86, of Little Chute passed away peacefully on Thursday January 25, 2018. She was born on August 13, 1931 daughter of the late John and Marie (Manning) Verhagen. She married Arthur W. Van Asten on June 26, 1952 at St. John Nepomucene Church, Little Chute.

Bonnie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who always made the care and well being of her family her top priority. While she was always interested in what was happening in the world, she enjoyed the simple things in life – the angelic smile of a child, a beautiful sunrise, a crackling campfire on a cool summer night, or the sound of laughter while playing a rousing game of sheephead with her family and friends.

She will be remembered by all who knew her as someone with deep faith who always gave thanks to God for the blessings in her life and for helping her through the hardships including the loss of a son and grandson early in their lives. Bonnie prayed the rosary virtually every day. Over the years, the number of stars in the sky were rivaled only by the number of rosaries Bonnie said for family, friends or even perfect strangers who she learned were in need of prayer.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Art; children: Mike and Lynn Van Asten, Kimberly; daughter-in-law, Connie Van Asten, Waupaca; Mary and Tim Schultz, Little Chute; and Jeff and Maria Van Asten, Shiocton; grandchildren: Chris (Jennifer) Van Asten, Sarah (Cory) Remmel, Zac (Kristin) Van Asten, Ryan Schultz, Curtis (Jessie) Van Asten, Erin (Brian) Ebben, and Riley Van Asten; and nine great grandchildren: Miles, Pearce and Teage Van Asten, Jolyn and Andilee Remmel, Chloe and Landyn Van Asten, and Hunter and Jaelynn Ebben. She is further survived by brothers: Gerald (Rose) Verhagen and Thomas (Claire) Verhagen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Gerald Van Asten, Germaine Abrosius, Elaine (Bernie) Miller, Marianne Neubert, Ronald (Ann) Van Asten and Diane (Leo) Gilsdorf.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie Verhagen; son, Richard Van Asten; grandson, Jesse Schultz; brother, Bill (Eileen) Verhagen; father and mother-in-law, William and Delia Van Asten; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Katherine Van Asten, Ervin (Alice) Van Asten, William Ambrosius and David Neubert.
