Betty (Elizabeth)
Vander Pas
May 25, 1937 – July 30, 2025
Our mom, Betty Vander Pas, died on July 30, 2025. Betty was born May 25, 1937, the second of seven children born to the late Albert and Martha (Haen) Poppe. She and her high school sweetheart, James Vander Pas, were married for 41 years and together raised 6 children.
Betty lived most of her life in Kimberly, where she also spent years working in the office at the Kimberly Mill, starting way back when it was KC. After retirement, she often attended daily Mass and participated in pilgrimages and prayer groups. She was particularly devoted to praying the rosary, even as her dementia progressed.
Diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, for the past 3-1/2 years Betty resided at Country Villa in Little Chute where, in all honesty, she wasn't living her "best life." LBD is hard!
Survivors include: her children, Deb (Rick) Verstegen, Cyndi Vander Pas, J. Scott (Wendi) Vander Pas, Bill (Lori Kunstman) Vander Pas, Mark (Sara) Vander Pas, and Jon (Peggy) Vander Pas; 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her dear and dedicated sister, Bonnie Otto (and special niece Michelle); brothers: Marvin (Sharon) Poppe and Rick (Mary) Poppe; sisters-in-law: Valerie Poppe and Mary Ann Poppe; and her faithful friend, JoAnn Hamilton.
Betty was preceded in death by her former husband, Jim; a sister, Mary Ann (Gene) Kappell; brothers: Joseph Poppe and Larry Poppe; and great granddaughter, Stella Grace Vander Pas.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (411 Vandenbroek Street, Little Chute) from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Her Funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. Deacon David Van Eperen will officiate. Committal St. Paul Cemetery.
