Obituary

Bernice Strobel, age 98, resident of The Landings of Kaukauna, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

She was born in Little Chute on September 3, 1923, daughter of Adrian "Jack" Pynenberg and Leda (Ebben) Pynenberg. Bernice grew up in Little Chute and graduated from St. John High School. She married Melvin Strobel in 1945 and resided in Little Chute until moving to The Landings of Kaukauna in 2018. She was an avid card play, and loved Bingo, her flowers, and her crafts.

Survivors include her son, Thomas Strobel, and her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Thyssen. Bernice is also survived by her sister, Theresa Verhagen; her brother, Dan (June) Pynenberg; and her brother-in-law, Alex Strobel; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Bernice is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Strobel; stepmother, Gen Pynenberg; her father- and mother-in-law, Norbert and Regina Strobel; and her siblings and their spouses: Dorothy "Dot" and Harry Evers; Norbert "Honky" and Rosie Pynenberg; Marion and Ray Schroth; and Rosemond "Roe" and Wes Schmitzer. She is also preceded in death by her stepsister, Nancy (John) Schreiter; brothers-in-law: Paul Verhagen, Mark Strobel, and Lester Strobel; and sisters-in-law: Ruth Strobel, Syvia (John) Dietz, and Beatrice (Oscar) Sturm.

A private memorial for Bernice will be held at a later date due to present health concerns.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Heartland Hospice Care, as well as the nursing staff of The Landings of Kaukauna.
