Obituary

Barbara Sieglinde (Popp) Buchanan died September 8th, 2023, at her daughter's home in Appleton, WI with loved ones at her side. Barbara Buchanan was born on June 14th, 1946, to Elisabeth and Willy Popp in the suburbs of Berlin, Germany. Times were very trying for her family during the war, as Barbara was the only child to survive that year in her community. That hearty spirit stood her in good stead her whole life. Barbara enjoyed her childhood years with immediate family in the city, while during the summer months she would visit her Oma, Opa, and other relatives in the country. Spending time in the beautiful countryside is where Barbara developed her love for flowers, gardening, and nature.

Barbara's father, Willy Popp, passed away after the war in the winter of 1946. Barbara's mother Elisabeth remarried Siegfried Kosowicz in 1948, who brought the family to America in 1958. Barbara grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan and attended Portage Central High School and Western Michigan University. Barbara met her husband, Bruce Buchanan in high school and they were married August 13th, 1966. Barbara and Bruce had two children, Renee' (Buchanan) Sullivan (1968) and Brett Buchanan (1970). Bruce and Barbara moved to Appleton, WI in 1988, where they currently reside. Barbara enjoyed spending time gardening, crafting, traveling, and most importantly time with her grandchildren and family. She had a kind, caring nature, a warm heart, and a selfless attitude towards others that was always a hallmark of her life.

Barbara battled with several illnesses and showed extreme grace and strength through it all. Her fight was ended by endometrial cancer. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bruce Buchanan, two brothers, Ralf Kosowicz and Victor Kosowicz, a sister, Rita Lahr, her two children, Renee' Sullivan and Brett Buchanan, and seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her love for her family was boundless.

In loving memory of our wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and center of our family unit. Through God's grace she is saved and will live an eternal life with Jesus.
