Alyce Kons, Little Chute, age 87 died Saturday April 17, 2010 at Renaissance Assisted Living. She was born in Freedom on June 7, 1922 to the late George and Minnie School. Alyce married Raymond Kons on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1942 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. He preceded her in death on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2005, two days short of their 63rd wedding anniversary. Alyce served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army (WAC) as a surgical technician during World War II. Her name is inscribed on the "Women in the Military" monument located in Washington D.C. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Parish, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258. Alyce lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Doreen and Marshall Knutson, for 4 years prior to moving to Renaissance in February. She enjoyed fishing, camping, going to cottages, ice cream, playing Liverpool Rummy and the occasional trip to the casino. Alyce especially loved children, spending time with family, all animals, and her little dog Wanda. Alyce loved everyone and everyone loved her.
Alyce is survived by her children: Doreen (Marshall) Knutson, Kaukauna; Bonnie (Daniel) Van Lanen, Kaukauna; and Kevin (Lori) Kons, Little Chute; grandchildren: Stephanie and John (Kelly) Knutson, Eugene (Michelle), Shannon (fiancé Phil Verboomen) and Jered Van Lanen, Robert, Kayla and Ross Kons; step grandchildren Mike (Missy) Knutson and Jodi Mader; great grandchildren: Riley and Aubrey; two step great grandchildren Mackenzie and Allyssa; sisters and brother-in-law: Beverly School, Clarence "Mike" (Sally) Kons and Connie Ballard; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Alyce was preceded in death by her siblings: Bernice (Antone) Meulemans, Loretta (William) Gerrits, Marie (Herbert) Anderson, Iline (James) Arts, Alois (Irene), Melvin, Richard (Carol) School, and infant brother Billy; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Laverne (Ed) Bongers, Bud (Fran) and Arthur Kons, Rita (Al) Fischer, Emily (Paul) and Bud Ballard.
Visitation will be held Tuesday April 20, 2010 beginning at 3:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St. Little Chute). The Rev. David J. Funk O.F.M. Cap. will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258 immediately following Mass. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery.
