Obituary

Alan M. Zierler, Little Chute, age 62, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, June 24, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Kaukauna on January 26, 1956 to the late Gilbert and Bonita (Vaubel) Zierler. Al married Judy Verhagen, the love of his life, on November 4, 1977 at St. Aloysius Parish in Kaukauna. He worked at Capital Credit Union for 40 years and was President/CEO for 27 of those years. Al also was a 26 year member of the Capital Credit Union Board of Directors. During Al's tenure, Capital Credit Union grew from a $56 million, 3 office organization into a $1.1 billion organization with 22 offices and over 400 employees. He also held board positions on numerous other credit union entities statewide.

Al was very active in his community. He served for 8 years on the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region board, including serving as chairman for a year. Other awards include: 2011 Fox Valley Technical College Alumni of the Year, 2013 speaker for the Fox Valley Technical College winter graduation, 2014 Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year, and 2014 Kaukauna High School Rally Master for his 40 th class reunion. For many years, Al was also the chairman of the Great Wisconsin Cheese Festival and volunteered for Special Olympics. He was an active member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and was a previous member and chairman of the finance committee. He also coached his daughters' volleyball and basketball teams while they attended St. John grade school.

In his free time, Al enjoyed spending time with his family. He attended all of his children and grandchildren's events. He loved goofing around with his grandchildren, bringing them to the park, walking to the Piggy store for a treat, and spending time with them in Florida. Al also enjoyed hunting and fishing up north at his cabin, cheering on his favorite Wisconsin sports teams, going for long walks with Judy, riding his Harley, happy hour on the patio, and spending winters at their condo in Fort Myers since retirement.

Al is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy; daughters: Michelle (Nathan) Leiteritz, Greenville; Kathy (Brett) Nelson, Darboy; and Kelly (Chris) Dulas, Darboy; grandchildren: Bennett, Brady and Alexis Leiteritz, Cami and Allie Nelson, Haylie and Brayden Dulas; siblings: Donna (Steve) Haen, Rick (Deb) Zierler, Diane (John) Haufschildt and Darlene (Eric) Kilgas; brothers and sisters-in-law: Sandy (Jerry) Gaimari, Keith (Lynn) Verhagen, Lenny Hawley, Barb (Leo) Schuh, Joyce (Ray) Schuh, Mark (Cindy) Verhagen, Bruce (Julie) Verhagen and Colleen (Tom) Geske. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Breanna and Bryce Leiteritz; father and mother-in-law, Ervin and Dorothy Verhagen; sister-in-law, Mary Hawley; and brothers-in-law, David Verhagen and Chuck Jacobi.

Al's family would like to thank ThedaCare Cancer Center and Hospice for their care and compassion.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 29, 2018 at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 Pine St. Little Chute) beginning at 2:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Ronald Belitz will officiate.
